• The most common mistake made by photographers is that they are not physically close enough to their subjects. In some cases this means that the center of interest—the subject—is just a speck, too small to have any impact.
• Think about your motivation and emotions: Blankly staring at the camera rarely gets good results. Be silly, don’t be afraid to over-act. The worst that can happen is that you fill up your memory card with useless photos; but you might also find yourself with a proper gold-nugget of a self portrait.

• You can create an especially revealing self-portrait by adding personal memorabilia surrounding your mirrored image, such as photos of yourself at various stages of your life, or anything that tells the viewer about your interests

I like this photo because it kind of shows that sometimes your environment can determine your happiness.

 I really liked this photo because it shows a contrast between his attire and his environment.

I like how the photos are in different dimensions within themselves.

I like how the picture is a photo of her face and she placed covering her face.

I like this picture because it is so original and it's in Black & White.

I like this photo because the guy is casually standing there minding his own business.

Lytro warm-up & Ethics in fashion photography

1. Whenever I clicked on the photo, the focus point would change to the part I clicked.
2. The camera has to be able to focus on all different areas at one moment/capture.
3. They would need to understand how to use the camera and its settings and the prefocus, how to take a picture manually and use all the different functions.
4. I believe that if you have a passion for photography, then its worth the money.

VIDEO:
1. EVERYTHING. Her eyes were enlarged, neck elongated, lips plumped, face thinned, etc.
2. I don't agree with it, advertisements like these only create profits for the company by lying to the public and destroy self esteems of ordinary people.
3. If they were trying to change a picture in order to change a story, then it would be ethically wrong.
4. I believe enhances to a photo are okay, but turning someone into someone they're not and portraying false ideas are bad.
5. Fashion photography is used to create pretty photos to look at that would help advertise their products, while photo journalism photography is used to tell stories.
6. The public sees both of these types of photography. Sometimes one will impact the thoughts of publicity more than others, but either way they give false photos that don't show complete reality.

1a) I choose #77 as the most powerful picture because its a very special moment whenever a solider is able to return home to their family and friends alive.
1b) Set #1 At home in Denver, 1-9
      Set #2 At Basic Training, 10-50
      Set #3 In Iraq 51-75
      Set #4 Back in Denver 76-83

      I believe that Set #2 is the most powerful because it shows the transition of an ordinary young man into a grown and tough army guy. He has to go through the struggles of transformation and leaving his family.

1c) The images work together to show the timeline of how the transition happened, before entering the army and his journey throughout all the way to the end of leaving the army.

4. Ian patiently sits in a chair as one of the leaders shaves his head bald with an electric razor. All of the Army members look similar with the same haircut so Ian's appearance blends in with the other's during Basic Training in their bedroom.

5a. It gives more background to the pictures and the captions that are already provided.
5b. The videos tells and lays out exactly how each picture came upon. It explains the unknown details rather than just explaining what was happening at the moment. For example, from the pictures you couldn't tell that his parents were divorced and we had a very close bond with his father.
5c. The photos can be better than the videos because it captures the moment and you're able to create your own assumptions of how the story went.

Sim Cam

F4 looks best at 1/250 sec.  It is the closest to what you would see with your own eye view, the background is blurred out enough to where you know exactly that the couple is your subject.

F5.6 looks best at 1/125 sec. The background is again, blurred but, not as much now. You can tell that the background are buildings & the couple still stands out clearly.

F8 looks best at 1/60 sec. the background continues to be blurred & the couple looks the closest to the picture from a persons eye view.

F11 looks best at1/30 sec. The background is still blurred while the objects look clear & live.

F16 looks best at 1/15 sec. Background is still blurred and the object is slightly blurred blending in.

F22 looks best at 1/8 sec. The background is blurred along with the main focus of the picture.

At slower Shutter Speeds, the photo comes out very bright and very dark at high shutter speeds. They should keep a shutter speed in the middle so they quality would come out right. I would say that the lowers shutter speed to use is probably 1/8th.

1. Anytime you shoot indoors you would need to set the ISO to a higher setting so you are able to freeze motion.
2. When there is plenty of light, you should always use the lowest ISO, to retain the most detail and to have the highest image quality.
3. You should increase the ISO when there is not enough light for the camera to be able to quickly capture an image. Anytime I shoot indoors without a flash, I set my ISO to a higher number to be able to freeze motion. Other cases where you might want to increase ISO are when you need to get ultra-fast shots, like the bird picture I posted above.
